The Easiest (and Best) Shark Craft for Kids

Shark Week is approaching, which means it’s time to pull out all our fun shark-themed crafts, snacks, and activities!  If you’re looking for an easy shark craft that is creative and will really hold your kids’ attention – this is it!

Sometimes my kids and I do crafts that require very specific materials and following a certain set of steps… This is not one of those crafts. These shark puppets are the definition of creative, open-ended crafting!

I’m going to share a list of suggested materials, but really – these are only suggestions.  Pull out your craft supplies and even some recycled materials, and feel free to work with what you have!

Creating Your Sharks

I printed a template to help me draw a shark outline on cardboard (here’s a good free one).  You could also freehand your sharks.  Don’t overthink it! 😀 Then cut them out.  I cut out three sharks to start, but we eventually decided we needed more because they were just so fun to make.

Then… let your kids go crazy!  Seriously.  This is one where the more free reign you give your kids over craft supplies, the better.

I love how Ella (my 5 year old) used our paint sticks to paint a rainbow shark, and then added fun accessories on top of it!

After we decorated some sharks, we decided to add craft sticks, which turned them into puppets.  Now they weren’t just pretty – they were fun toys, too!

This craft could truly be used for any topic.  Learning about a different animal?  You could cut your cardboard out like dogs, cats, cheetahs, cows… The possibilities here are endless!  Or maybe you have a dinosaur obsessed kiddo and you want to make dinosaur puppets.  PERFECT!
