Throw a Sweet & Simple Minnie Mouse Oh Twodles Birthday Party

If you’ve been here for a minute you know how much I love a great DIY party theme, so when my younger daughter turned two recently, I knew I wanted to do something cute and fun.  Like most two year olds, Ruthie loves all things Minnie Mouse, which made a Minnie Mouse/Oh Twodles birthday party theme absolutely perfect for her big day!

Last year, I threw a joint kitty cat themed party for my girls, and it was a big extravaganza – we had almost 60 people in attendance! But this year, I was very intentional about keeping Ruthie’s party small and intimate.  She’s a pretty shy girl, and I feel like I’ve grown enough as a parent to realize that a small party with just our family was perfect for her – so that’s exactly what we did.

Whether you’re hosting a small, low-key birthday party for your little one or a big blowout birthday bash, I’ve got some great Minnie Mouse-themed ideas that I think you’re going to love!

Oh Twodles Birthday Party Decorations

I kept decorations very, very simple for our party, for a number of reasons. We were at a park, we were celebrating with just our family, and I was also very budget conscious.

I bought pink tablecloths and paper goods from the dollar store, and then I also grabbed these Minnie-themed paper plates from Amazon when I spotted them, mostly because I knew they would make the birthday girl happy.  We also grabbed a Minnie and a Mickey balloon from our local grocery store, and a new “Happy Birthday” banner from Dollar Tree.

If you’re looking to decorate more, there are SO many adorable options available! Check out these Minnie Mouse birthday party decorations, this Minnie-themed number 2 candle, or these chic pink-and-gold “Oh Toodles” paper goods.

The Menu: Minnie Mouse Snacks

Again, simple was the name of the game for party food!  I picked up popcorn chicken from Publix (because what two-year-old doesn’t love chicken nuggets?), and then went with some very simple themed food:

  • Mickey Goldfish Snacks – A kid-favorite snack that comes in a Mickey theme?  Say no more!  I put out a bowl of these Mickey goldfish for a super easy themed snack.
  • Minnie-Themed Fruit Tray – I made a Minnie head out of grapes by making a simple three-circle Mickey Mouse shape.  Then I used a cut strawberry to make a bow, and surrounded Minnie’s head with more cut strawberries.
  • “Oh Two-dles” Cake – I made a simple Funfetti box cake and frosted it with pink icing.  Then I added this adorable “Oh Two-dles” cake topper!
  • Minnie-Themed Oreos – This was the only snack that took a little effort, but they turned out SO cute.  I used pink melting candies and dipped Oreos halfway in the melted candy.  After they dried, I took a mini Oreo, separated the two pieces and scraped off the cream from inside, and then dipped each little piece in a bit of the melting chocolate (to act like glue) and carefully placed them inside the top of the bigger Oreo.

Birthday Girl’s “Oh Twodles” Shirt

I love using my Cricut to make themed shirts (I show you how I made this Harry Potter-themed onesie here), and I knew Ruthie would be THRILLED with a new Minnie Mouse shirt!

I bought this “Oh, Toodles” design on Etsy and prepared each part in Cricut Design Space.  Using multiple colors of vinyl like this is still relatively new to me, so it was a little bit challenging!  But the shirt came out so cute that it was well worth it.

Minnie Mouse Party Activities

I brought some bubbles and party blowers to the party, but other than that, I didn’t have any planned activities – we were at a park, and the kids played on the playground for hours!

However, if you do want to have some activities at your party, there are LOTS of great ideas you could plan for!  Here are a few:

Tips for a Stress-Free Minnie Mouse Party

My biggest piece of advice is to keep things as simple as you want.  My little girl is pretty shy, and I’m SO happy I made this an intimate, family-only gathering.  It’s just what the birthday girl wanted, and she had the time of her life… and when you’re planning your child’s birthday party, nothing else really matters, does it?

Of course, if you want to have a big, extravagant party, that’s wonderful too!  Whatever kind of party is best for you and your family is the perfect kind of party.
