Throw an Adorable Hello Kitty Birthday Party
My oldest daughter just turned six (where has the time gone?!), and we had her birthday party this past weekend. After LOTS of careful consideration, she landed on a Hello Kitty-themed birthday party, and I had SO much fun planning it!

Party Setup and Decorations
I’m usually a DIY girly all the way, but I made things simple for myself and bought most of our decorations from Amazon this time around. Ella was especially excited about this huge Happy Birthday banner – it’s 3 feet by 5 feet and super festive!
I also grabbed this set of paper goods and a tablecloth for an adorable, cohesive look.
Hello Kitty Birthday Party Treats
I decided to make Hello Kitty cake pops for an extra-special treat! I used Bakerellas’ cake pop recipe, which was super easy to follow. Considering I’ve never made cake pops before, I think they came out pretty good. That being said, don’t look too closely at some of them.. Some came out better than others!
We also grabbed these adorable Hello Kitty ring pop treats. The girls loved them!
And I kept our cake super simple: a homemade Funfetti cake with a cute cake topper. Ella was thrilled!
Party Crafts & Activities
Our main activity at the party wasn’t specifically Hello Kitty-themed, but it was REALLY fun. We had a hair stylist (who is somewhat of a family friend) come and braid colorful hair extensions into the girls hair. The girls were ecstatic and they looked SO cute!
We continued the girly hair-and-makeup theme by allowing the girls to put makeup on each other (Ella had gotten a kids’ makeup set for her birthday), and I painted their nails with these Hello Kitty-themed nail polishes.
I also set up a cute and easy Hello Kitty paper plate craft. I prepped the supplies for the craft the night before the party by cutting out all of the pieces needed to make Hello Kitty’s face from construction paper, and I set them out with glue in a tray. I put out paper plates and a completed version of the craft, and let the girls go to work.
Party Favors
I forgot to take pictures of our party favors… OH NO! However, I included three things inside the girls’ goodie bags: a Hello Kitty nail polish, a Hello Kitty ring pop treat, and this Hello Kitty coloring set. I’m big on quality over quantity when it comes to goodie bags – no one really needs a bag full of junk to take home!
Tips for Hosting a Hello Kitty Themed Party
If you decide to throw a Hello Kitty-themed birthday party for your little girl, you can choose to make it as simple or elaborate as you want! Here are a few tips for throwing an awesome Hello Kitty birthday bash:
- Keep the theme consistent but simple – It’s easy to get carried away with decorations, food, and activities, but remember that young children appreciate the overall experience more than the details. Choose a few key elements—like themed tableware, balloons, and a signature activity—to make the party feel special without overwhelming yourself with too many details.
- Plan activities that keep kids engaged – Having a structured yet flexible schedule helps keep the excitement going without chaos. For a Hello Kitty party, incorporating hands-on activities like a craft station (such as the Hello Kitty paper plate craft) and a makeover station (with hair, nails, and makeup) ensures that the kids stay entertained. Keep each activity around 15-20 minutes to maintain their attention span.
- Offer easy, themed – Themed food is a great way to bring the party to life, but it doesn’t have to be complicated. Hello Kitty cake pops are a perfect example of a simple but adorable themed treat. If making intricate desserts feels overwhelming, store-bought treats or simple ideas like pink-frosted cupcakes with Hello Kitty toppers work just as well!
- Keep it fun for everyone (including you!) – As the host, it’s easy to get caught up in making sure everything goes perfectly. But remember, the most important thing is that the birthday girl and her friends have fun. Don’t stress over small details—if the kids are happy and engaged, the party is a success!
